Ujvala Vemuru, Indian-Origin Doctor Dies in a Trekking Accident in Australia

Ujvala Vemuru, a 23-year-old aspiring doctor from Andhra Pradesh, accidentally died after falling into a waterfall during trekking in Australia.

According to news reports, she was trekking with her friends at Yanbacoochie Falls, Lamington National Park in southeast Queensland, Australia, when the incident happened.

As per the report of The Free Press Journal, Ujvala Vemuru dropped her camera tripod near the ledge and slipped into the water while trying to grab the camera tripod. She fell another 10 meters into a waterhole. After 6 hours of efforts by the police authority, her body was discovered.

The accident led local officials to issue a cautionary advisory urging the public to always remain on the assigned path and areas while visiting Lamington National Park.

Her remains will be brought back to Elukapadu, Unguturu Mandal in Andhra, home to her grandparents for the final rites.

Originally, Ujvala Vemuru belonged to the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, India.

But her parents, Vemuru Venkateswara Rao and Maithili, shifted to Australia several years ago.

She was an aspiring doctor who completed her MBBS from Bond University in Gold Coast, Australia.

She holds a degree of Doctor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Medical Studies and was planning to do post-graduation.

In 2018, she was honored with the title of “WA’s brightest young minds” for her exam results at Willetton Senior High School. Currently working at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital.
