Idris Elba jokes in SAG monologue that he got ‘kicked out’ of De Niro’s office

Idris Elba kicked off the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards with its traditional ‘I Am an Actor’ opening segment, as reported by ‘People’ magazine. The segment featured stars like Michael Cera, Colman Domingo, Hannah Waddingham, and Elba reminiscing about their career journeys as the ceremony celebrated its 30th year.

Elba, 51, shared a humorous anecdote about his early days in the industry, involving acting legend Robert De Niro. He joked about “scamming” his way into De Niro’s office for auditions for ‘A Bronx Tale’ when he was just 19 years old, despite being late and uninvited. Elba used his charm to convince the security guard and receptionist to let him in, only to be kicked out by De Niro’s producing partner, which he took as a sign of future success.
